FLAMES OF WAR – April 17th commencing at 10 a.m.

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Can you command your force of GIs or Tommies to victory over Jerry and his Italian allies in Africa or Western Europe; or will you take the role of Ivan and protect Mother Russia from predations of the Hun? Bring 900 points of your favorite force up to the store on the 17th to find out. As horrible rainy and overcast weather once again plagues the various theaters, only armor, artillery and infantry will be able to play a part in these battles. You may take your forces from the any of the books currently for sale just let us know when you arrive which book you have chosen so we can pair you off with appropriate armies.

There is plenty of room for all, and as we did last time we will have a few extra armies available for anyone who does not have their army currently ready for battle. I hope to see you all there and if you have any friends that have an interest please bring them along.

Malifaux review on The D6 Generation

Friday, March 19th, 2010

MalifauxThis isn’t exactly “new” news, but in a recent episode of the The D6 Generation podcast they did a rules overview of Malifaux.  From the fluff to the rules, it was a great intro to the game.  If you’ve been considering picking up some Malifaux minis, or you already picked up the game and are still trying to gather up the willpower to dig through the rules – I would listen to this first.  It’s making learning the game much easier for me and is guaranteed to suck you into this great skirmish game.

Check the time stamps in the notes on the page if you want to skip ahead in the podcast to the review of Malifaux.  If you aren’t already familiar with The D6 Generation, they are an amazing general gaming podcast that is worth a listen.

FLAMES OF WAR EVENT – SATURDAY MARCH 20th

Friday, March 5th, 2010

We wanted to let you all know that we have changed the event slightly and you should now bring 900 point armies with a mix of armor and infantry only.  The games are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and run until 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. depending on how things go and how long anyone wants to play.  If anyone has any questions please call the store or drop me a line on here.

We are once again running a Flames of War event with enough room for all interested players, regardless of experience level. The main goal is to bring in any 600 point army from the Festung-Europa, Hell’s Highway, A Bridge Too Far or North Africa books and try your luck in facing off against other Generals. We will try and match up Allies against Axis Players to the extent we can and will try and get in and least a couple of games each. I will have a couple of extra army lists available for newer players if they just want to try the game out.

Once the event is over you are welcome to stick around and play some more games at whatever points level you want to try.

We are also looking into getting a sponsored 900+ point tournament for at least 12 players in the near future if we can garner enough interest. If anyone is interested in entering such a tournament please let us know by dropping us a line in the comment section.

If you have any questions or want to let me know you will be up at the store on Saturday the 20th of March please feel free to drop me a line in the comment section and I will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you on the 20th.

Lots Of New Board Games

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

PHTO0040We have added a lot of new board games during December and January.  Over 30 new titles over the last six weeks or so.  Our “New Releases” section is over flowing.  Many of you may have used boardgamegeek.com to get info on new or existing games and they give each title a rating.  Many of the games I enjoy playing have ratings of 6 or more.  When I see a rating of 7.0 and higher it peaks my interest and rating of 8.0 and higher are pretty rare.  This is helpful to me as a player and it helps us decide what to do with new releases sometimes.   Here is a list of some of the new releases we have in stock and the current ratings.

Axis & Allies Pacific – 8.01                             Day & Night – 7.23
Colonia – 6.61                                                  Opera – 6.99
Twilight Struggle (new edition) – 8.24            Nepal – 6.92
Panzer General – Allied Assault – 8.25            Canal Mania – 7.07
Shipyard – 7.46                                              Planet Steam – 7.62
Luna Llena – 7.69                                          1853 – 6.68
Brief History of the World – 7.53                      Bushido – 6.56
Carson City – 7.40                                          Power Struggle – 7.59
Claustrophobia – 8.19                                   Thunderstone – 7.18
World Without End – 7.51                           Vasco da Gama – 7.97
Imperial 2030 – 8.26                                    Valdora – 7.23
Agricola:Farmers of the Moor – 8.52              Power Grid, Factory Mgr. – 7.43

So many to play and so little time.  We try to keep the an inventory of the best games available.  If you have played or heard about a game that you think we should have in stock let us know.  Many of the games we carry have been recommended to us by our customers.

Flames of War @ Gamers Haven – Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Greetings All,

For all of you would be WW2 Generals out there, we will be running a Flames of War event on January 16th at Gamers Haven.  Now is the time to mobilize your armies and send them to the frontlines.  Each player should bring a 900 point Mid-War force.  So long as the army is set in Mid-war it can be from any of the books.  If you are not sure about placing a unit in your list please let me know and we can discuss it.  The basic idea is to start getting peoples armies on the table and start rolling some dice.  We will have the tables setup so all you need are your armies, measuring tapes and dice.  I will be on hand to help with any rules or other questions that crop up.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
