Don't forget that the last Monpoc event of the month is open play. We hope that Voltron will be out by then and we'll certainly be using that if it is available. However, feel free to bring your Monpoc stuff either way because the two games work together.

My only hope is that they go bck to their roots. In my Opinion, 7th edition was a disaster and lost most of the flavor that traditional Warhammer fans loved. It became 'just another wargame'. My hope is they go back to the original story lines and balance the various armies to that. Back in the day, people didn't play armies just because they would win with the 'cheese factor', they played them because they were fun to play. People used to have more fun losing than winning (that is an enigma to those brought up on 6th and 7th edition). A large part of the fun was to see what craziness your own army did and everyone laughed and cheered at the quirks of an army. It all added color and unpredictability to the game that made people laugh rather than become rule-lawyers.

I'm getting the new edition with crossed fingers (and maybe a return receipt). I'll be putting my nearly untouched, limited and numbered, 7th edition book on a back shelf and might stumble across it in some future spring cleaning.

Comment on Lord of the Rings Campaign Starting by Michael Ross

Still working on several Lord of the Rings factions. They include: Goblins of Moria (can't figure out how to paint the lava skin on the Balrog!), Warriors of the Last Alliance (mainly the Elves though) Can't seem to trade off the men of the Last Alliance, and the Fighting Uruk Hai. My Uruk Hai and High Elves are the most fleshed out and ready to play armies, with a good mix of range and close combat, with several captains and a few characters to throw in. I don't have enough crossbows in my Uruk Hai force, and don't have Saruman or Wormtongue yet, so likely I would play the Last Alliance Elves with my very own converted elven calvary (prior to the new eleven calvary releases available at Wally's store). Too bad I can't find time to play with work and grad school! I'll find the time one day. Until then its modelling and painting in the odd hours of the night when I can't sleep or am procrastinating on my term papers.

I just played the following games and they were a hit with my board game group! Zooloretto and Pandemic! Both were very easy to pick up. Pandemic is a cooperative game that is VERY difficult, even on the easiest level. We played it wrong, passing cards around even though we weren't in the same city as required by the ruels, and humanity still died out from the pandemics! Zooloretto is a great game if you don't like alot of violence (good for kids and kind and gentle hearted people) and requires you to collect sets of like animals and mating them to get the best possible points value. Zooloretto and Pandemic are up there on my list of MUST PLAY GAMES. Currently the list includes: Citadels, Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers, Balloon Cup, Lost Cities, and now these two!. Check them out!

We will be starting at 10 and going until 2 or 3 depending on how the games are going. We are also going to up the points level to 900 to allow all the players to be able to take a mix of armor and infantry. We want to avoid using any air power at this event as we would like to see a good mix of just infantry and armor.

Checked a couple of rules for the LoTR SBG and was told that there is no area terrain and that as it is a skirmish games, trees are treated as individual trees ans there would be no areas of woods, so we should keep that in mind as "in the way" tests are only taken if a specific tree or wall, etc, is actaully in the way of a model shooting at a target model.

Secondly, in regards to the use of Might points to cause additional wounds. Any Might points must be spent before a target declares if it will use any Fate points to avoid wounds. If the model causing the wound(s) chooses not to spend the Might points immediately, then he loses the chance to cause any additional wounds.

It was a great tournament and I actually learned a lot from it. I hope Gamers Haven hosts another soon! Hopefully at the 1500 points level if possible.
