Warhammer 40k Tournament

Hello All!

This is Brandon here and I wanted to let you all know that there is a Warhammer 40k tournament coming up on January 30th.  It is going to be a 4 round event, fought on a 4′ by 4′ table at 1250 points.  Painting is not required, but is always encouraged. The tournament will be using missions out of the Warhammer 40k rule book with slight variations to make it interesting.  There will be plenty of  prizes even if you manage not to win.  Prizes just for showing up…. Hmmm its quite a possibility!

If you have any more questions about the official rules, please feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you promptly.

The cost is going to be $10 a head so be sure you sign up right away… seats will fill up quickly!!!  The event is going to be sadly limited to the first 12 playing participants due to space restrictions.

We all hope to see you there!

Regards

–Brandon

    Brandon,

Do you want this posted on our web site for North Coast Gamers? If so, are there any other details or limitations you’d like for me to include?

  2. Brandon says:

    Dan,

That sounds like a really good idea!

Some of the other details are that it starts up at 10 am sharp. What you see is what you get will be enforced so players should make every effort to take this measure into account. Slight deviations will be tolerated as long as it is made clear and consistent through out the game and every game. However showing up with the wrong pieces or empty bases will not fly. Every player should have a legal list no higher then 1250 points. Players are expected to bring 2 copies of their list along with all of their needed supplies (books templates dice and so forth). Due to in the inaccuracy of the rule set if any conflicting interpretations about a rule arise, a judge will be on hand and his ruling is final. However everyone at the store is very knowledgeable so I can’t imagine this being a major issue.

The only way to “secure” a spot is to pay. People interested in playing should not wait to the last minute to sign up and pay. The tournament is based on battle points, sportsmanship and painting are not going to be accounted in determining a winner. However in regards to sportsmanship, if someone is being intolerable, they will be asked to leave the event.

Other then that I can’t imagine much more to add to a brief description.

I also checked out your website, it seems very interesting so I am definitely going to have to investigate more!

    Questions:
    1. How do you get your army list ‘validated’ if you know what I mean?

    2. How can you get an almost questionable miniature accepted as wysiwyg?

I’ve got a bunch of old rogue trader minis in my army that don’t necessarily have weapons that look like anything any more, but were Citidel Miniatures. I play gaurd, and some of my gaurdsmen were actually released as space pirates – they hold what were really autoguns, but now aren’t really anything. THey’re used as las-guns. There is one or two heavy weapons that don’t really look like anything, too, but they’re old Citidel.

    3. Is there a time schedule for the events of the day?

    4. Are any of the slots filled?

    5. Is there anything else a participant has to do or do ahead of time?

Here are the answers to your questions…

    1. How do you get your army list ‘validated’ if you know what I mean?

Bring up a list with you to the event and try to show up around 9:30am then either the judge or I can take a look at it. I always suggest either bringing up a printed copy of your list with all wargear and points fully written out. Or if you have access to the program, army builder is a great alternative. I know the program is available at the store just in case we need to check your list out.

Thats within reason, so its cool. Besides, I like the older models! Just make sure you clearly explain what they are when explaining your army to your opponent and when making your list. I also ask for consistency, if you want autoguns to count as lasgun ins one squad in and in another squad they are shotguns thats not cool.

    3. Is there a time schedule for the events of the day?

We would like to start at 10 and end it around 5, possibly later. The speed of the tournament is going to be based on the speed of the players. On average when we tried out the 1250 format we were able to set up and play whole games in 50 mins. So I would expect all games to be fast and bloody. Each game will be limited to 1 hour and a 1/2 but I no for certain the will be done way before then.

    4. Are any of the slots filled?

As of right now we have 7 participants. Not all of them have paid, but they are making the commitment

    5. Is there anything else a participant has to do or do ahead of time?

I would work on ensuring and testing your list out before hand. So then if you have any questions about how your army plays or if there is any confusion we can work it out prior to the event. Also, I would contact the store so you can reserve your spot, that way we can plan for you to be there. Finally, make sure you have all of your mini’s, books, and templates set up and ready to go so you don’t leave any of them behind.

As a final note, I just want to make sure you are using the current rendition of the guard rules which were released in 2009. We will not accept the previous versions of the guard codex.
